Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback:
I offer neurofeedback treatments to clients if they express interest in this. Neurofeedback helps to modify cognition in people so that they can better manage their specific situation, based on the goal they have set for themselves as an outcome of therapy. Even more now than ever, neurofeedback therapy is being recognized as a profoundly successful tool in the treatment of a myriad of concerns.
What exactly is Neurofeedback training?
Neurofeedback Training is the process of changing specific brain frequencies (electrical impulses) in order to alleviate a wide variety of symptoms, as listed here. With Neurofeedback, we strive to understand more about how our brain works in terms of cognitive and emotional issues most affecting us.
Neurofeedback treatment simply relies on the use of a therapist’s computer and a client game computer. As a client plays a computer game or watches a DVD, the software program rewards, inhibits and/or changes the brain’s frequencies. The process takes place in the quiet and comfort of the office and is non-invasive; clients sit at a desk in front of the computer. Clients report the process to be relaxing, enjoyable, and even entertaining.
A review of the data gathered by the neurofeedback software will determine what frequencies should be modified so that the brain becomes more capable of transitioning between resting, focused, and alert states in order to for us to have a better command and understanding of how an issue manifests and how it can be addressed.
How long does Neurofeedback take?
Clients can choose to participate solely in Neurofeedback treatment or engage it in conjunction with regular talk therapy. Generally, several sessions of Neurofeedback training are needed over the course of a few weeks in order to see the best results of treatment. Sessions are scheduled for once or twice a week depending upon a person’s issues and goals.
Where can I find out more about Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback training has been gaining in popularity in the past several years. Today, it is estimated that 7,500 mental health practioners in the U.S. now offer Neurofeedback treatment to clients and it is believed that in the past ten years, at least 100,000 Americans have tried it.
SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
This information is for practitioners or people more knowledgeable about the neurofeedback field. Dr. Halbrook mainly uses the Brainmaster Technology equipment for training and EEG collection, especially the Atlantis 4X4 and the Discover amplifiers. The primary training modalities he utilizes with this equipment is regular neurofeedback, including 2 channel asymmetry training, Z Score training, and Infra Slow Fluctuation training. Dr. Halbrook uses Neuroguide from Applied Neuroscience to analysize and help create maps and protocols. For those interested in earlier types of training, he also utilizes the EEGer system from EEG Spectrun, Inc. and Thought Technologies.
